Welcome to Pequod's Pizza

LOCATIONS

Welcome to Pequod's Pizza, a beloved gem nestled in the heart of Morton Grove, Illinois. Since its establishment in 1971 by Burt Katz, this proud establishment has earned its place among Chicago's premier pizzerias, and for good reason. The cozy atmosphere invites you in, providing a balance of quaint charm and nostalgic decor that transports guests to a classic pizza parlor experience.

Pequod's is famous for its signature pan pizza, known for its caramelized crust that adds a delightful crunch with each bite. As you dive into a slice, you’ll notice the darkened edges, a result of mozzarella cheese expertly cooked around the rim, giving you a satisfying combination of chewy and crispy textures. But it doesn't stop at the crust; the well-balanced ratio of fresh toppings, zesty sauce, and generous cheese make each pie a delightful indulgence.

As you explore the menu, your taste buds are in for a treat with the extensive selection of appetizers and salads. The Garlic Bread served with marinara, the crispy onion rings, or the hearty Pequod's Salad—packed with a medley of fresh veggies—set the perfect stage for the main event. Many patrons rave about the accompanying homemade ranch dressing, which elevates the crust-dipping experience to new heights.

Here's what makes Pequod's so special:

We finally were able to make our way over to Morton Grove and try one of the OG deep dishes. The quaint small pub feel made things a lot cozier than other deep dish chains. The pizza came out in thirty minutes and was piping hot. The bottom of the pie was nice and crispy while the sauce, cheese, and fresh ingredients were generous and flavorful. We definitely see how it has a strong following amongst deep dish enthusiasts. While its not as buttery and crispy as our favorite variety, the bold rich flavor of our pepperoni sausage pan pizza will definitely still give it a spot in our local deep dish recommendations

The referral came highly recommended and now I see why. This deep dish sausage and pepperoni pizza, hands down, was the best pizza I've ever eaten! The crust is by far the best I've had cooked to perfection with the best crunch. The facility is cozy and very clean. There is some sort of info all around the place and our server Lynn was so kind and told us a lot about the history of the place and that the man in the photo on the wall next to us was the owner. She had such great things to say about him. We asked what she recommended and proceeded to place our order. We ordered fried zucchini which was tasty, but I feel there should have been a few more pieces for the price. Then we enjoyed the deep dish sausage and pepperoni and a thin cheese pizza to go. Lynn stopped by while I was about finished with my piece and asked if I liked ranch dressing, I do, and she suggested I dip the crust into the ranch and try it. She said it's a homemade ranch and it's delicious. That it is! And that combo was perfect! I would have loved to see a brushetta on the menu and with a crunch like the pizza crust and that would have complimented the pizza even more. Only one complaint.. the seats aren't the most comfortable. We will surely be returning! I almost forgot.. they sell merchandise as well!

Pequod's can be found on pretty much all the serious lists of top-shelf Chicago-style pizza restaurants. This is the original location, which was founded by Burt Katz in 1971. Their signature Pan Pie is baked with a carmelized crust. They begin the process by putting a ring of mozzarella around the rim of each deep dish pie; the cheese carmelizes as the pie bakes and the result is a dark rim that consists of a completely delicious combination of chewy and crispy rolled together :-) Tip: "Pequod" was the name of the ill-fated Nantucket whaling ship that was captained by Melville's Captain Ahab. I'm not sure what the connection to Chicago-style pizza might be, but I hope to find out soon :-) When we arrived at the restaurant, I noticed that from the outside the place is very unassuming; I imagine that the look and feel of the place hasn't changed much in the five decades since the restaurant first opened. The interior is cozy, with a small seating area that's both casual and welcoming. Service is prompt and friendly, and our server gave us the essential 411 about their pizza. We started our meal with an order of deep-fried cheese sticks and mushrooms and a round of draft beer. Following the advice of our server, we limited the number of extra toppings added to our pie to four. We went with pepperoni, sausage, fresh garlic, and mushrooms. Having been cautioned by our very helpful server that Pequod's pies take up to 45 minutes to bake, we settled back to enjoy a relaxed conversation over our beers and appetizer. When the pizza arrived (in just over 40 minutes) it was TOTALLY worth the wait! It was brought to our table in the pan it was baked in. The crust was thick but crunchy, especially along the rim of the crust where extra cheese caramelized on the hot pan. We were told most guests eat two slices apiece and we both did that thing, but we were completely stuffed when the meal was over. We throughly enjoyed our first visit to Pequod's. I highly recommend this place to anyone who truly appreciates outstanding Chicago-style pizza, and I plan to become a regular :-)

A whale with panties on its head? How can it be bad, right? Holy crap this was some good pizza. They're supposedly known for their crusts and the "burnt" caramelized cheese that doesn't taste burnt. The personal size was perfect as you get MORE of that black edge than a larger slice. Plus, trying to get multiple people to agree on pizza toppings is the worst! This was recommended by some locals and it did not disappoint. I also had the Pequod Salad (small) which had lots of goodies inside. Their house Italian dressing was great. They had some good beer choices as well. This place was a bit small, but it appeared like they had more seating in the back. Make reservations unless you're going during non-peak hours. Staff was friendly, it had a "neighborhood" vibe with houses right across the street (can you imagine living near this place?). I think they have multiple locations and also saw signs they ship via Goldbelly!

My time at Pequods was time well spent! This restaurant is a total small town Chicago cheers vibe! The bar is fit with 4 stools. They used to not take reservations, but according to the manager, they now take reservations. So be sure to call or go early. My only problem is the wait time was kinda long... BUT it's nothing when you have a beer and good company. Personally I don't recommend going with more than 3-4 people in your party. THE PIZZA IS AMAZING!!!

Do you know how much I love Pequots pizza? I love it so much. I spent $50 in an Uber ride to get here just to eat their pizza. I've been to both their locations over the years and whenever I'm in Chicago always make it a point to get their food. This is one of the best pizzas in town. It's my favorite. If you never been here, I suggest you stop and give them a try. One of the best pizzas you'll ever have. The crust is simply perfection. Every single bite with the cheese and pepperoni are simply phenomenal. The customer service is great . Everyone That works here is very friendly. When you step in here, it's like stepping into a time capsule. I really like the decor. It gives you an old-school field. Reminds me of an old pizza parlor. I'm from Houston Texas and I always make it a point to find my way here every single time I'm in Chicago.
